Balancing Act
By Administrator | April 9, 2006
The past couple days have not been great, exercise-wise, though I did get quite a bit of work done at my job and managed to clean out two closets at home (throwing away about ten bags of trash) so that my oldest daughter has somewhere to stash her stuff for the moment. Five adults living together in a three-bedroom house is a bit cramped…
The aforementioned eldest daughter and I are about to go out for a bike ride; me on my trusty mountain bike and she on her very cute adult trike. For some reason, two of my three daughters have not been able to find their center of balance so that they may ride a two-wheeler, but I think the trike is a brilliant idea, and it can be used to transport groceries, library books, etc., which can be difficult on a mountain bike.
I feel guilty for not having gotten outside more with the girls when they were little so that I could teach them to bike and skate. No good excuse exists for my negligence and I would strongly encourage other parents to get out and play with their kids while they’re little. Not only will you be able to teach them the important skills of biking and skating, you may also avoid the health consequences that come from spending too much time indoors - plus, you’ll have some fun memories to fall back on. My present plan, since my girls are all pretty well grown now, is to get out and play with any grandkids that I may have.
Now I think it’s time to go out biking!
