3.56 is a Magic Number

By Administrator | July 5, 2006

The number 3.56 will be important to me for the next several weeks. This is the distance I’ve decided to use as the training ground for the X-Terra Scramble on September 30th. Yesterday, I walked the 3.56 mile loop around a back road in my neighborhood to gauge the distance and create a baseline time to work from. I completed the walk in 1.3 hours.

This morning, I awoke at 4:53 a.m., dressed, and headed out for my first actual morning of training on the loop. I was able to jog quite a bit more than I expected, though not as much as I wanted, and really enjoyed the downhill portion! I managed to cut my time from the 1.3 hour walk of yesterday morning to a 1 hour jog/walk today. I would have made even better time if my right foot hadn’t gone numb so that I ended up walking the final few blocks barefoot (I’m breaking in new running shoes).

I feel pretty good right now. My body is awake and my muscles are pleasantly tight and tired. I’ve been surprised to find out just how many muscle groups jogging actually works - especially in the lower abdominal area where I really need to firm things up.

Now I’ve got to go get ready for work…but I’m already looking forward to my next outing tomorrow morning…
