Two Men

By Administrator | December 30, 2006

Gerald R. Ford’s body arrived in Washington, D.C. today to lie in state throughout the weekend. The former President is being afforded full honors before being laid to rest in Grand Rapids, Michigan, near his presidential museum on Tuesday morning. The Ford family held a private service in California before accompanying Ford’s body across the country to the nation’s capital where he now lies. Current and former politicians and heads of state have joined members of the general public to pay their last respects during this time of national mourning.

Our nation pays tribute to this good man in the shadow of the execution of someone who was, perhaps, his polar opposite. The death of Saddam Hussein is being both mourned and celebrated in the Middle East as the United States pays solemn tribute to one of our finest.

Each of these men had a major influence as a leader of their respective countries, for good or ill, and both will long be remembered for the circumstances surrounding their time in power. Both men also have loved ones who are even now mourning the raw pain of their loss.

My thoughts go out to both families in their time of grief.
