More Snow
Wednesday, February 28th, 2007We seem to have had another light dusting of the white stuff on top of yesterday’s snow. The roads weren’t too bad when I was out at 4:00am this morning to take my eldest daughter to work - and we don’t seem to have gotten much more accumulation since then, thankfully.
Late Winter Wonderland
Tuesday, February 27th, 2007We awoke this morning to a blanket of heavy wet snow. After the gloomy and windy weekend, the brilliant sunshine glistening off the pristine white was gorgeous - and painful to the eyes. The Sierra Nevada to the west of us looked a little like the “misty mountains” (some of you may recognize the reference), […]
Oscar Part Two
Monday, February 26th, 2007The Oscar ceremony this year was actually too long and boring. I loved Ellen Degeneres’ understated hosting, but wish that some of the filler in between awards had been reduced or cut in order to tighten up the event. Did we really need the interpretive dancers and the over-long special award introductions? Maybe future ceremonies […]
A Quick Post
Monday, February 26th, 2007Unlike the Oscars last night, which came in at about 3 hours and 45 minutes, I just wanted to give a quick overview of what I enjoyed about the show:
The Youth Factor - Abigail Breslin and Jaden Smith were adorable presenters. I think the Oscars needs more kids.
Ellen Degeneres - Her low-key comedy and […]
Oscar and the Snowy Sunday
Sunday, February 25th, 2007This evening is that most glittering of Hollywood events: the Oscars. Our family has an annual contest where we all print out our own Oscar ballot and try to predict the winners - the person with the most correct selections gets a prize (usually a gift card to to either a book or electronics […]
Dia de la Bandera
Saturday, February 24th, 2007Green is for hope and victory.
White is for the purity of our ideals.
Red is for the blood our national heroes shed.
In addition to the bands of color, our flag also has an emblem. The […]
President’s Day?
Thursday, February 22nd, 2007The big excitement in our little city today was that we had eight Democratic presidential contenders participate in a forum hosted by George Stephanopoulos of ABC News. News trucks from all over the state and various parts of the country congregated outside our Community Center for this historic event so you can probably find […]
Ash Wednesday
Wednesday, February 21st, 2007Ash Wednesday is a time for repentance and the beginning of Lent. Ashes were used in ancient times, according to the Bible, to express penitence. Dusting themselves with ashes was the penitent’s way of expressing sorrow for sins and faults. (courtesy of Wikipedia).
While I did grow up within the Catholic faith, I no longer […]
Mardi Gras
Tuesday, February 20th, 2007Happy Fat Tuesday! Today is the end of Carnival and the final celebration before the season of Lent in the Christian tradition; which makes tomorrow Ash Wednesday. For those of us who don’t follow strict religious guidelines…Mardi Gras equals a huge party. Some of the best places to find a good party are New Orleans, […]
New Links
Monday, February 19th, 2007If you check along the sidebar, you’ll see that I’ve added a few new links. Several of these are for people I know and others are exercise-related (I’m hoping that adding them here will remind me to update at my various fitness progress sites).
I’ll be adding other links on occasion and will post here to […]
