Lost Wages
By Administrator | February 11, 2007
This past week, I took a work-related trip to Las Vegas and was reminded just how much I like living where I do. While I’m sure Sin City is a lot of fun for the people who live and visit - the area just doesn’t appeal to me all that much. Especially now that I’ve seen a little of the “seedier” side; the time I visited prior to this, also work-related, had to do with tourism and the trip was much more glamorous than the one I just completed.
Still, getting away from home base is always a nice change because it does remind me to appreciate what I’ve got. The sight of a huge traffic jam on a freeway under construction put into perspective the five or ten minutes extra I sometimes spend in traffic. All the sky cranes hovering above the megaresorts along The Strip and the thick smog were much less appealing than the mostly-clear skies and looming Sierra Nevada of my hometown. Even the northern and southern Nevada airports were miles apart in more ways than one, even though we traveled at a time where we didn’t have to wait in extremely long lines at McCarran.
I’ll take my “hick” town over sin city any day. While I don’t mind flying south for a visit, I sure wouldn’t want to live there!
