I’m Not Crazy, I’m Just a Little Unwell

By Administrator | March 12, 2007

Yes, we’ve come to that time of year again…cold and flu season.  This is the time of year when everyone spends a lot of time stuck indoors together passing around germs, either at work or school, and most of us eventually get some form of illness.  Thanks to a couple of my daughter’s college instructors, she and I appear to have caught an unpleasant “head cold” and we both spent the weekend lying weakly on our living room sofas eating ice cream and hoping desperately that we’ll feel better tomorrow.

Now comes Monday morning and I’m still feeling really bad.  I woke up extra early feeling a little soreness in my throat (where my tonsils once resided), sinus pressure that’s making my eyes feel as though they’re about to bulge out of my head, and body aches any time I make the mistake of moving.  The only reason I’m online at the moment is because I’m waiting for someone to get to work so that I can call in sick before I go back to bed and, hopefully, sleep away the rest of the day.

The best part of being sick is how good I feel when I get better.  While I’m pretty darn miserable and uncomfortable right now, I realize that in a few days my body will be re-energized enough for me to go out and take on the world again.

And the above lyric, courtesy of Matchbox Twenty, reminds me that I’m thankfully not fighting off pneumonia the way I was a few years ago when the song was originally released.  That was a much more unpleasant experience than the minor illness and discomfort I’m facing right now.  As long as I remember that, everything will be just fine in a few days.

Isn’t it interesting how you can feel bad and really good at the same time?
