Happy Easter

By Administrator | April 8, 2007

Greetings to everyone who celebrates the holiday in either the religious or non-religious sense. To me, Easter brings to mind memories of attending mass adorned in a new spring dress, shiny Mary Janes and white lacy socks, white gloves, a hat, and a little purse. My family would visit my grandparents later in the day for an early dinner and then I’d be able to play with my cousins who were similarly well-dressed for the occasion. Easter has always seemed a positive and life-affirming day: sunny and newly warm with fresh grass and leaves and the symbols of baby rabbits and chicks. I also loved the day for the chocolate rabbit and basket of goodies delivered by the Easter Bunny.

This year those memories are more clear to me than the many more recent Easters that have passed since I became a mother. Our daughters are all grown now, and one has moved out, so our family is in a place where we need to create new holiday traditions. Today will probably pass much like any other day with one daughter at her home in another city, one daughter at work, and the third daughter either hanging with friends or doing homework. This makes me feel a little melancholy for times past and people now gone.

Still, the weather has been gloriously spring-like and I’m enjoying all the new blooms and singing birds. This time of year is positive and beautiful and I know the future will bring many shiny new memories of celebrating holidays with family and friends.

Happy Easter!
