A Woman On The Edge

Today

We’ve reached the mid-point of the week after two tough days at work and some pretty hot weather.  Tomorrow’s the official first day of summer (according to the calendar on my wall), despite the fact that the temperatures have been summer-like for a couple weeks now.  What I wouldn’t give for the cooler weather and snow from our anniversary celebration back in the first week of June.

As mentioned, work has been pretty tough so far this week.  I’ve been at my new job about ten months now and these past two days have been the busiest I’ve seen in all that time; we’ve had four patrons in our research room over the past couple days, plus I’ve also taken several phone requests and I was trying to get started on the minutes of the group for which I serve as secretary…not to mention that I still need to complete the re-boxing of about 100 boxes of our former governor’s files.  And this was supposed to be a nice quiet job.

I also managed to get out for yet another bike ride this morning despite feeling pretty horrible physically.  My body is not happy with this perceived punishment and I’m feeling muscles I’d forgotten I had - even the muscles in my hands are sore when I type.  The good news is that feeling these muscles must mean that I’m working them, right?

Anyway, my chosen path for the morning took me over to the Fifth Street hill where I reached a maximum, exhilarating, downhill speed of 20.8 mph.  My average speed for the 1.5 mile loop was 7.3 mph and I completed the trip in 12 1/2 minutes.  Along the way, I saw many cats and birds, as well as several other bicyclists, and fortunately very few cars.  I do love exercising first thing in the morning as the rest of the world either sleeps or gets ready for work.

Now I’ve got to go get myself ready for another exciting day on the job.  At least two researchers are coming back and I have no idea what other interesting challenges the day might bring.
I guess I’ll just have to go find out for myself.

[…] The Bride is getting into the bike riding thing and she’s making slow but steady progress.  It’s nice to have the company. […]
