Movie Day
By Administrator | August 4, 2007
Today was one of those days when I just couldn’t get motivated to do much of anything and I decided to do something I don’t think I’ve done in quite some time: I rented three movies that I’ve been wanting to see because I didn’t have much else going on.
The first movie, Miss Potter, is the tale of children’s author Beatrix Potter. I’ve wanted to see this one because I love stories about real people, especially authors, and I also like Ewan McGregor and Renee Zellwegger. Also, I’ve read the author’s biography so I already knew how things would turn out, but I still cried through a majority of the second half. This one gets a thumbs-up from me.
My second choice was The Last King of Scotland, the story of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin. I didn’t expect this one to be cheery and I was definitely right on that score. While I enjoyed the movie very much, and Forest Whitaker’s portrayal of Amin was fantastic, that is a movie I’ll watch only once. Be cautious about renting this one of you’re not a fan of extreme violence/gore. Still, the movie gets a thumbs-up in my book.
My final selection was somewhat half-hearted since I didn’t really expect much of Music & Lyrics and I’m afraid I was right. This was a formulaic romance from beginning to end, but if you enjoy those types of movies you’ll love this one. Drew Barrymore is always cute and I’ve seen most of Hugh Grant’s comedies. The music video for the made-up 80s group “Pop” was pretty funny and really catchy. I give it half-hearted thumbs-up.
And that’s how I spent my Saturday. Here’s hoping I’m a bit more productive tomorrow.
