By the Numbers

As of yesterday, I’m once again trying the “no flour, no sugar” eating plan - and I’ve now started tracking my caloric intake again. I’ve decided to set a goal of no more than 1500 calories per day since dieticians have had me on both 1200 and 1800 calories; I decided to set a middle ground for myself. I didn’t do too badly on my first day, ending up with 1590 calories, but I really need to buy healthier and lower-calorie items for my food intake to be more balanced. I could eat a lot more in the way of fruits and vegetables and whole grains, I need some good protein, and I could cut back just a bit on the dairy products. I’m also trying for five 300-calorie mini-meals spread out over a twelve-hour period to see if I can keep myself from becoming so hungry that I binge on whatever I can find in the kitchen.
Yesterdays exercise consisted of cleaning a couple closets and vacuuming the living room. I’m going to do my best to go for a bike ride some time today so I can start building up my stamina again and I’d like to hit the pool by next weekend.
This morning I weighed in at 204 and I’d like to be down to around 190, maybe less, by the time this year ends. My research indicates that a person needs to burn 3500 more calories than they take in to lose one pound of fat. I’m hoping that using a little mathematics will help me lose weight again since I’ve been having such a hard time lately. Aging definitely slows down the metabolism and I have to work much harder than I did in the past.
Here’s to a new month, a new start, and the hope of a nice Christmas present to myself…having lost a few pounds between now and then.
