Once Bitten, Twice Shy

By Administrator | July 10, 2008

I seem to have once again been bitten by the desire to write a lot and I’m happy.  For the longest time, I’ve had a “writer’s block” that I can only believe came about after my disappointing first novel came out in print.  The book Noble Savage placed second in a POD publisher’s contest about five years ago, earning me publication as an eBook, but I decided that I wanted to hold bound paper with my name on the cover and shelled out a little cash to make that happen.  Unfortunately, I’d submitted the first version of the story I’d written, not the much better second one, so I never really tried too hard to promote the thing even though I hoped that people might come across it somewhere and give it a try.

Since then, I’ve spent a lot of time “writing in my mind” and I’ve participated in Nanowrimo a few times, but I haven’t really done any serious work on my own projects.  That’s about to change because I’m feeling the itch to get my thoughts out again in a big way.  The difference now is that I’ve learned a bit more about the business side of writing so I think I can do a better job in that area.  I’ve also grown as a writer and I’ve learned more about the mechanics of sharing a good story.  Hopefully all this will gel enough so that I can complete a work of which I’ll be proud.

Whether or not that work is picked up by a publisher is secondary.  Now, I’m writing more for me than anyone else - though I’d love to be able to create something that others would enjoy as much as I’ve enjoy my favorite authors.
