A Woman On The Edge

Turn the Page

By Administrator | June 24, 2008

My current writing “project” is to deconstruct and restructure some of my old work. I have several projects going, many started during Nanowrimo, that I plan to re-do so they read in a more coherent and consistent manner. My inspirations have been two of my writing heroes, Bethany Donne and Gorgeous Nerd (says the proud mama), and the recent surge in requests from family, friends, and fellow writer’s group members that I get back into the writing habit. Despite my participation in both Nanowrimo and Script Frenzy, I haven’t done much in the way of actual writing for awhile because I had a bit of a block when I learned that having my name on the cover of a book wasn’t actually the be-all end-all of my existence. Since then, I’ve learned that I write because I enjoy the process of creating my own little world and sharing stories about things that interest me. I believe I’m ready to approach my writing in a new, more mature, manner and I look forward to the results.

Time to turn the page and get back to one of the things I love most.

Strange Day

By Administrator | June 23, 2008

Sometimes I don’t realize how much I appreciate my “comfort” zone, but minor changes to my normal routine really throw me for a loop.  Several things happened today that changed that routine so I’m feeling a bit out of sorts tonight.  The main difference is that hubby is on the opposite side of the country for a business trip - something he hasn’t done in awhile - and I’m feeling pretty lost knowing that he isn’t just down the street (or in the next room).  I also spent my afternoon in a training session at work so I will be able to help update our agency web site; I’d been looking forward to learning enough to perform this new task, but I found out that I’m actually pretty familiar with the types of things I’ll be doing so I was bored and twitchy.

Today wasn’t bad, just different enough to knock me for a loop.  I’m sure part of the problem is that I’m a bit tired.  Things should look much better after a good night’s sleep.

Summertime

By Administrator | June 22, 2008

We’re now officially in the summer season and the temperatures are already heading up into the 80s on a regular basis.  This is the perfect weather to head to the beach and relax in the sun for about ten minutes (I’m a pale-skinned blonde of Irish ancestry so even that may cause a sunburn).  This is not really the time of year when I want most of us want to do anything strenuous or work-related, but real life doesn’t allow for the summer vacations we had in school.

On the family front, I’ll be helping youngest daughter move the last of her stuff into her new place today with the assistance of middle daughter (while my eldest is at work).  Hubby is about to go on a cross-country business trip that will take him away for the majority of the week.  And I’m looking forward to a busy week at work that includes a lot of copying and training so I am able to start helping keep our web page up-to-date.

We’re due to have a three-day weekend again in a couple weeks and I’m hoping to be able to goof off during that time.  I feel like I’m going to need the rest…

Drama

By Administrator | June 18, 2008

Even my enjoyable low-stress job is prone to the drama and office politics and I have to say that I am somewhat disappointed.   Still, I much prefer my current work environment to any of my previous positions and I’m very happy with what I’m doing for the time being.

Here’s to finishing up a Wednesday workday.  We’re now on the downslope toward the weekend.

A Quick Good Morning

By Administrator | June 17, 2008

Today is a bright and sunny Tuesday just before the official start of summer and I’m ready to head off to work after having spent yesterday in a haze of exhaustion.  While most of my job is pretty laid back, I have several projects piled on my desk at the moment (massive amounts of copying for a researcher, meeting minutes, information requests, and preparation for a web training class) and I feel a small amount of stress that I can’t just get them all done right away since I hate leaving things hanging when I go home from the office in the evening.  Still, I have to say this is the best job I’ve ever had, or probably ever will have, and I just have to learn to let go a little more.  As my boss says, “nothing is urgent” in our line of work.

Saturday in the Park

By Administrator | June 14, 2008

Waving American FlagI think it was the 4th of July…

Or Flag Day, actually.  Today is the 231st anniversary of the adoption of the United States flag - and today is also the 233rd birthday of the United States Army.  This is a good time to think about the men and women in our various military branches who are risking their lives in the Middle East, as well as those brave people in uniform who are stationed at other locations around the world.  We owe them a lot and we should be very grateful they’re willing to do what they do.

Since today is also Saturday, I’m enjoying some relaxing quiet time before I go off to do some chores and run errands.  I like nothing more than to have at least a few hours one day a week just to myself.  That makes me feel selfish, but I tend to have more energy throughout the week if allow myself this luxury.

So now I’m off to have that relaxing quiet time.  Happy Flag Day!

Friday the 13th

By Administrator | June 13, 2008

My neck of the woods has been a little strange today.  If you’re wondering why, you should check here or here.  Fortunately, work was pretty quiet as usual and we had few visitors (human or otherwise), but that wasn’t the case when I got home.  Most of the family has been barricaded indoors as we listen to the odd noises beyond the safety of our walls.

I’m tired from all the excitement so I’m going to relax before heading off for what I hope will be a quiet night’s sleep.  Hopefully, we’ll all still be here when the sun rises tomorrow…

Been a Long Time

By Administrator | June 12, 2008

Hubby and I went for a bike ride this evening and when I updated my Bike Journal account I found that I haven’t ridden since April 15th (almost two months).  I’ve really got to do better than that, no matter how busy I get.  Today’s ride was was quick 24 minutes and 2.98 miles to Subway and back.  The weather was perfect with sunny skies, coolish temperatures, and a slight breeze…Nevada at its finest.

Day Is Done

By Administrator | June 9, 2008

Another Monday has come and gone.  Work wasn’t too bad, but I was dragging after having been on vacation and due to the warmish temperature (we were forecast for a high of 81 degrees).  Though nothing much worth discussing happened in my little corner of the world today, I’ve promised myself that I’m going to try to post on my blog more often so I’m just checking in to keep myself honest.
